Description

A serving set in olive wood, where the grain does all the decorating. Olive grows slowly and irregularly, which is why the figure in it is so dense and why no two sets look the same.

How to Use

Use them to toss and serve salads, pasta, grain bowls and sides. The surface is smooth and softer than metal, so it will not score a ceramic bowl or a glazed dish.

Hand wash with warm water and mild soap, and dry immediately — wood and standing water are the whole problem. Do not soak them and do not put them in the dishwasher; the heat and the long wet cycle are what crack and warp wooden utensils. Once a month or so, rub in a light coat of food-safe mineral oil to keep the surface from drying out.

Materials & Care

Olive wood, with no chemical coatings, stains or varnishes. Hand wash and dry immediately; oil occasionally; not dishwasher safe.

Why You'll Love It

Wooden serving utensils are the ones that survive. There is no coating to flake, no join to loosen, no plastic to discolour — just a piece of dense hardwood that gets a little darker and a little smoother the longer you own it. Olive in particular has a grain worth looking at, so the set does not need putting away between meals. Kept dry and oiled now and then, this is a thing you hand on rather than replace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can they go in the dishwasher?
No. Hand wash, and dry them straight away rather than leaving them on the drainer.

How often should I oil them?
Roughly monthly, or whenever the wood starts to look dry and pale. Food-safe mineral oil is the usual choice.

Will they all look like the photograph?
Close, but not identical. Olive wood grain varies piece to piece, which is the point of it.
