Abuelas Bakery Candle

The Abuela's Bakery Candle is not the simple vanilla you expect from a bakery scent. Saffron and caramelised sugar sit on top of coconut, clove, incense and sandalwood — warm, resinous and a little smoky, the way a kitchen smells when something has been baking for hours and the spice tin has been open.

How to Use

Set it on a heat-resistant surface and light the wooden wick. On the first burn, let the wax pool reach the edge of the glass — this sets the memory of the wax and prevents tunnelling for the life of the candle. Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before each lighting; a wooden wick burns best short. Burn for two to four hours at a time.

Coconut-soy wax blend with an FSC-certified wooden wick, in a reusable glass vessel. 8.5 oz, with a 50–60 hour burn time. Hand-poured in micro-batches in New York by Valorosa, formerly Bonita Fierce.

The caramelised sugar is real and forward, but the sandalwood and incense underneath give it somewhere to go, which is why it holds up in a room instead of turning cloying.
