Coquito Candle

The Coquito Candle is the Puerto Rican holiday drink rendered as a scent — coconut, rum, cinnamon and nutmeg, creamy and spiced. Light it in December, or in July when you want the house to smell like December.

How to Use

Set it on a heat-resistant surface and light the wooden wick. Let the melt pool reach the edge of the glass on the first burn so it does not tunnel later. Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before each lighting. Burn two to four hours at a time.

Coconut-soy wax blend with an FSC-certified wooden wick, in a reusable glass vessel. 8.5 oz, with a 50–60 hour burn time. Hand-poured in micro-batches in New York by Valorosa, formerly Bonita Fierce.

Why You'll Love It

Coquito is not eggnog and this is not a generic holiday candle. The coconut is creamy rather than suntan-lotion sweet, the rum note is boozy in the right way, and the spice list — nutmeg, clove, cardamom, ginger — is the actual spice rack of the drink rather than a vague "warm spice" accord. If you grew up with coquito, you will recognise it immediately. If you did not, it is still one of the better coconut candles you will light.
