From SUR Barra Nikkei · Santurce, PR
The signature sauce from Puerto Rico's first Nikkei restaurant — now bottled.
Chef Rafael Ubior trained in Lima, Perú — the global capital of Nikkei cuisine — at Astrid & Gastón and El Mercado. He came home and opened SUR Barra Nikkei in Santurce, the first Nikkei kitchen on the island. This Sesame & Ginger sauce is the one he serves to guests there. Japanese precision, Peruvian citrus, Puerto Rican soul, in one bottle. Meet Chef Ubior →
Bring restaurant-grade Asian flavor into your everyday cooking with Made By Cooks Sesame & Ginger Sauce. Developed by Puerto Rican Executive Chef Rafael Ubior, this small-batch sauce blends toasted sesame, fresh ginger, and a chef-built balance of soy and aromatics into a single bottle that works as a marinade, dressing, glaze, or finishing sauce.
How to Use
This is the sauce that solves a dozen meals. Use it as a marinade for chicken, salmon, tofu, or beef — 30 minutes is enough, an hour is better. Brush onto grilled or roasted proteins in the final minutes of cooking for a glossy sesame-ginger glaze. Whisk with rice vinegar and a touch of honey for an instant slaw dressing or salad vinaigrette. Toss with hot noodles and steamed vegetables for a 10-minute weeknight stir-fry. Or just keep a bottle on the table as a dipping sauce for dumplings, spring rolls, or rice bowls.

Why You'll Love It
Most store-bought Asian sauces are either too sweet, too salty, or so artificial they all taste alike. This one was built by a chef who runs his own kitchen and refused to compromise on flavor. The result is a single bottle that replaces multiple ingredients in your pantry — and delivers restaurant-quality results without the work. Whether you are meal-prepping for the week, hosting friends, or just making a quick weeknight dinner, this is the sauce that does the heavy lifting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it gluten-free?
No. The sauce is built on a soy and teriyaki base that contains wheat, and the label declares sesame, soy and wheat.
What is the difference between this and the Spicy?
The same sauce with orange habanero pepper purée added. This one has no heat at all.
Does it need refrigerating?
Only once it is opened. Shake it before each use — the sesame oil separates, which is what oil in a real sauce does.
